Student Work

Check out what my student, Sara, did on her own at home! She took a 3-session collage class with me at the Montclair Adult School at the Montclair Public Library and loved the medium so much that she said she was going to continue at home. An avid Zentangler as well, Sara experimented by combining the two styles (shown here with original photo). I’m so excited and proud! What a beautiful result.

On the Homefront

We’ve been undergoing a massive renovation on our house, involving a new dining room addition, redoing the kitchen, adding central air to the main level, and subdividing some other existing spaces. My studio is currently a pile of unidentifiable boxes in the middle of the basement floor. Our kitchen contents are boxed and piled in the garage while the room itself looks like it was bombed out. The dining room and mudroom are just plywood and studs. Our beloved general contractor disappeared for emergency back surgery last week, which was the same week I learned that our cabinet ‘dealer’ wasn’t actually authorized to sell us the product that we purchased from him and he’s been ignoring my email attempts to secure a refund of our deposit. It’s June in NJ and the house is starting to get stuffy and warm, even though the weather has been pretty cool so far, and my daughter and I moved back in with my parents. My husband stays with us for weekends and at our house during the workweek. So, yeah. I realllllly miss my creative outlet these days…

Scouting the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck

I’ve been trying to figure out which shows would be a good fit for my work. I heard about Country Living Magazine’s Fair in Rhinebeck and thought it might be a fit. While it sparked some ideas for projects, there was very little original art. Mostly there were antiques. Funky stuff, for sure, but not the antique/art blend I was hoping for. It was a beautiful day and the place was packed, so people were there to shop. But from the conversations I overheard, they’re looking for the fantastic buy and the one-of-a-kind vintage doodad. Think Joanna Gaines. Not fine art buyers. Back to scouting, and most likely sticking closer to home. I did find an awesome Father’s Day/birthday present for my hubby though.

How AWESOME is this image?!

Someone recently emailed me this crazy Getty image of a streaker being arrested on a soccer field. Look at the expressions on the bobbies’ faces! I had a good laugh. So when they asked if I’d be interested in creating a collage with similar subject matter, what could I say but YES!! These are definitely clients I want to continue the conversation with!! This level of detail won’t work for the medium, but the theme? Definitely makes me smile. And we all want work that makes us smile.
